Parochial Church Council

Report of PCC meeting held on Monday 28 November 2011

The PCC were updated on proposals for various aspects of the furnishing and décor of the church building, and then decisions were made on the following items:

  • carpet: design, layout and colour scheme
  • chairs: style and colour
  • decoration: paint colour scheme for the walls
  • kneelers: having wall hangings made to display the different designs
  • stonework: repairs to the outside wall near the main entrance
  • pulpit: use of the stone from the pulpit in the church grounds
  • the raised plateaux area outside the main door of church – two types of blockwork/stone, one that will form the surface of the top level and one that will be the steps.

All these were unanimously agreed. A display will be put together for the congregation to see all of this early in the New Year, but in the meantime please feel free to ask any of the reordering committee for any further details.

A brief summary of some financial additions and deletions to the overall budget was given and mention made of the ongoing situation with Urbanfloat over their right of way across church land.

Positive feedback was shared in relation to members of St Luke’s going out doing things in the community – the gardening group, the group that went into Woolston Mead to take a service, and those (including TAG) who went to help and support the Christian stall at the Mind, Body and Spirit fair.

Charges for outside groups using the church hall for 2012 were agreed.

A discussion took place about health and safety of church employees and the PCC’s duty of care.

The annual end of year giving to missionaries and charities as proposed by the World Mission Group was approved, and 26 February was agreed on as World Mission Sunday 2012.

A general discussion around how we as a church have progressed in relation to the PCC’s objectives that had been set for 2011 took place. The objectives were as follows:

  • Continue support for Fresh Expressions
  • Greater financial support for church overseas
  • Take the reordering further
  • Health check for the cell groups
  • Further our profile in the community
  • Biblefresh initiative
  • Develop our leaders
  • Resolve Optisavers contract
  • Strengthen links with uniformed organisations

We recognized that some were more easily ‘measured’ than others and summed the discussion up saying ‘There is lots to be thankful for and lots to continue to strive towards.’

Joshua 1.9 had been proposed as the church bible verse for 2012 by SMT and this was agreed.

Our treasurer reported that there is to be a slight increase in our parish share.
