Parochial Church Council

Report of PCC meeting held on Wednesday 14 July 2010

The PCC agreed to appoint Linda McDowell as its 4th representative on Sefton Deanery Synod.

The PCC received an update on St Michael’s CE High school after its OFSTED inspection (good with outstanding features) and their appointment of Paul Ackers as Headteacher until August 2011.

The PCC were also updated on the latest developments with Optisavers and looked forward to a quick resolution. They expressed concern about people using the church’s car park when they shouldn’t and will write to local businesses.

The PCC agreed to appoint Ian Turner-Bone and Olivia Lowey-Lieb as Foundation governors to St Luke’s Halsall (1 vacancy remains) and also agreed a further £2000 to St Luke’s Halsall for its current building project.

The PCC discussed the issue of there being too many fund-raising events in addition to all the other activities in the church. It was agreed that people should be aware when organising such an event what else was going on and that it is desirable for there to be no more than 3 such events a month.

Eric Linford (treasurer) was pleased to report that we have an excess of income over expenditure to the end of June 2010 of about £27,000 of which £10,000 was reserves.

The PCC agreed to fix the current hall heating system (oil) by replacing it with a new system that was more efficient and didn’t use fossil fuels. It would cost £12,222 + VAT and would be done during the summer. This was an urgent priority. It would also mean that the repair to the wall of the churchyard on Liverpool Road would have to be carried out later on in the year.

The PCC re-affirmed its commitment to spend £3000 for the first year on a deanery youth worker but would also be happy to contribute to a deanery children’s or family worker if that was considered a higher priority.

The PCC considered the outcome of the next series of consultations on the re-ordering of the church building. It was agreed to ask our architect to work up some drawings based on what we have agreed so far.

It was agreed to hold over discussion about children receiving communion before confirmation to our next meeting in September.
