| Welcome | Describe a time when you were really frightened. What helped you have courage and get through? |
| Worship | Read Psalm 35.1-10. Meditate on verse 10 then praise God for helping you when you are weak and providing you with a way through when things are difficult. Perhaps you could thank God for particular instances in your life. |
| Word | Read Joshua 1.1-10 1. We often see the book of Joshua as containing many analogies that we can look to help us understand the true meaning of life in Christ. Can you see any deeper meanings in the crossing of the Red Sea and coming to the Promised Land, that will help us understand what Jesus has done for us? 2. Joshua (Yesu in Aramaic and Jesus in Greek) means Salvation. In his book “Victorious Christian Living”, Alan Redpath says that the entrance to the land was entrusted to a representative Joshua. Everything was put in his hands as a trustee of the people. Why did the Father put everything in the hands of Jesus to bring about our salvation? 3. “Full blessing in the Christian Life is not bestowed except to eager, hungry people who press to receive it.” (Alan Redpath). In what ways are we likely to miss out on the full blessing of the presence of God in our live? 4. ’Be strong and very courageous; Do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.’ (Verse 9). Why do you think Joshua was chosen by Moses to lead the people? What experiences had formed his character (Deuteronomy 34.9) 5. Should we ever seek position for its own sake? Do we need to be broken and humbled before we see ourselves as God sees us and learn to rely on him? |
| Witness | Pray for courage to live as a Christian in your daily lives. |
