Haggai 1.12-15

Welcome Ask each member to share what makes them happy and why.
Worship The passage in the study is not a long one which also gives you the opportunity to spend longer on other aspects of these notes. For your worship you could take some time to ‘listen to God’. You can use silence, singing, reading the Bible or listening to a piece of music. When you have finished share with the rest of the group what you believe you ‘heard’ or ‘felt’ or ‘saw’.
Word

Reminder:
Jerusalem conquered by Babylon 606 BC.
Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem destroyed 586 BC.
Babylon conquered by Persia 539 BC
King Cyrus allows exiles to return to Jerusalem 538BC
Haggai speaks his prophetic words 520BC (Temple has been started but not finished)

Read passage Haggai 1:12-15.

v 12 Who obeyed the voice of the Lord?
Why is it important that everyone obeys the voice of the Lord?
What does it mean to fear the Lord?
v 13 Is Haggai’s message too ‘vague’ and ‘obvious’?
v 14 How were people’s spirits ‘stirred up’?
Why did they need to be ‘stirred up’ do you think?
What was the result of being ‘stirred up’?
v 15 what was happening during these three weeks (compare v 1) before they started work?

Questions for us:
1. How important is it for our re-building for unity amongst us, leaders and people? How can we keep this?
2. How do we know that we are obeying God’s voice in this matter?
3. How can our spirits be ‘stirred up’?
4. What preparations do we need to make before our Gift Day in May?
5. Do we need great faith in God or faith in a great God?
6. How will everyone in church be involved in working on the house of God?

Witness Before the next time you meet, resolve to speak to at least one other person about the Gift Day and our re-building plans. Tell them that this is what we are planning to do and why we think its important to do it (if you’re not sure about this, talk as a group before you leave!). Report on your conversations next time you meet.
