Relationships |
|
| Welcome | What were the three most important rules in your home when you were growing up? What do these reveal about your family? |
| Worship | Read Psalm 19 together. From verses 7-11 share some of the attributes of the law listed that you can discern. Finish by saying verse 14 together. "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer." |
| Word | Read out the ten commandments from Deuteronomy 5. 1. Do you feel it is a good thing to read out the 10 commandments each communion service or do you feel that the summary of the law (Matthew 23:37-40) is more meaningful? 2. There are 613 commandments in the first 5 books in the Bible. Do we need to work out the ten commandments in the details of our daily life by creating rules for ourselves? Share some examples of rules that you have set yourself and explain why? (e.g. I will not criticise my cell leader, partner, boss etc; unless absolutely necessary, etc James 4:11-12) 3. Three commandments about our relationship to God. One about our relationship to ourselves. Six about our relationship to others. Do we question our own attitudes to others by comparing them with God's commands? Do we question our idolatrous attitudes enough (Colossians 3:5). 4. If Sunday is our day of rest how can we keep it holy? Does giving God time take away time from ourselves or does it release us from the everyday needs of our lives? |
| Witness | Pray that God will give you opportunities to demonstrate God's ways to others. Ask God to give you courage to follow his voice when faced with difficult decisions that may seem hard to take. Pray for your quiet witness among family, colleagues neighbours etc. |
