“to create a place of beauty and a haven for people and wildlife

Bog garden: May - June 2009

The bog garden is at the north eastern corner of our grounds and measures approximately 10 x 4 metres. We dug the area to a depth of about 50cm in August 2008. We lined it with damp proof membrane and cut slits along the bottom to avoid waterlogging. We added 5cm sand to help drainage.

We added wood chippings and compost, and overwintered some perennials we had been given.

We planted the first phase of our garden during our ‘Dirty Afternoon’ on 6th June (our contribution towards Springwatch’s Dirty Weekend!). We hope to complete planting in spring 2010.
