Congratulations! - You're Getting Married

(a few things you might like to know)

Love is friendship set on fire.

A successful marriage is not a gift; it's an achievement.

Married couples who say they have never had an argument in 40 years either have very poor memories or a very dull marriage.

I have spread my dreams under your feet.
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

People need loving the most when they deserve it the least.

It is not only necessary to love
it is necessary to say so.

Resolve the flak before you hit the sack.

It's important to make time for your children but it's even more vital to make time for each other. They need you to help keep love alive.

From the Sixty Second Marriage (Rob Parsons)

Practical details:

Banns of marriage - these must be called in the parish church where you live. It will cost £34. We would like to welcome you to St Luke's to hear your banns being read and give you a present!

Hymns - you are welcome to choose 2 or 3. Ones that are well-known (people will join in), ones that are associated with other family weddings perhaps. We can advise you as well.

Music - for coming down the aisle at the beginning and going up the aisle at the end. It can be our organist or a tape/CD can be played (you will need to provide this).

Service - we will follow the Church of England service and if any friends or family wish to be involved in participating in it they are welcome to do so. If you wish to print your own order of service then please liaise with us first!

Fees - for 2010 they are £370. Some of these have been set at national level by the Church of England (vicar and Church Council fee £260) and some have been set by St Luke's Church (organist £55, verger £35, registers £20). You can also have the bells rung for you (£85) and flowers arranged for you too (£40 and/or £30). We will invoice you when we know your requirements. This should be paid in cash or cheque in advance. The wedding won't proceed until the fees are paid…

Video - you are welcome to have the service recorded in this way but you will have to have a copyright licence. You will have to arrange this yourself and any video operator must operate under our direction!

Photographs - during the service, photographs are not allowed (too off-putting). However, after the signing of the registers, they will be allowed. The official photographer must also work under our direction!

Rehearsal - usually a few days before the service by arrangement. Bride, groom, bride's father, best man, bridesmaids essential, everyone else optional!

Further questions - Shirley, our administrator, can be contacted on 0151 931 3119 or stlukesgc@btconnect.com.

Marriage is good for you … and your children!

Marriage is more likely to lead to a long term stable commitment: fewer than 4% of those living together do so for 10 years or more.

Married couples are more likely to be faithful to each other than those who live together.

Married couples at all socio-economic levels accumulate more wealth than those living together.

Married couples have fewer health problems than those living together and married women are less likely to be victims of abuse.

Children of married couples do better at school, have fewer emotional problems and are better off financially. They are also more likely to maintain contact with their fathers in the event of a break up.
