How can you help?

Phase 1 of the work is already well underway and phases 2 and 3 will cost in excess of £100,000.

Meeting the costs of this renewal is a big task. But we are confident that, with the help and support of everyone associated with St Luke's, we can rise to this challenge.

We would like to begin phase 2 in autumn 2009 and for this to happen we are organising a Gift Day on Saturday May 9th.

From now until then we are asking everyone to think and pray about what they can pledge as a donation to help make the vision come true. With such a large sum needed it is right that those willing to offer support make sound financial planning. You will find out more over the page about the Gift Day and how you can make a pledge.

Making your pledge

On Saturday May 9th between 12 noon and 4pm we are inviting you to come along to St Luke’s and return your pledge form. We will enclose this information in another letter to you soon. We are planning that this will be a fun day where people can look round the church and grounds with activities for all ages.

Then on Sunday 10th May we will be holding a service of celebration at 10.30am for everyone when we will announce the amount of pledges received. This will be a very exciting moment and will be followed by a shared lunch for all.

If you would like someone from St Luke's to contact or visit you to explain more please send the details below to Rev Pete Spiers at the parish office. Your personal information is confidential and we will not share it with any other organisation.

St Luke's Great Crosby one church, one vision

We have served God and the community of Crosby for many generations. Our forebears made sacrifices so that we could worship and feel nurtured and be part of the Christian family and now it is our turn to make our mark in the continuing life of our muchloved church.

In 2009 everyone associated with St Luke's has an opportunity to unite in a shared vision that will build on its heritage and ensure it remains at the heart of Crosby with Crosby in its heart.

Please read on to find out about our plans for the future and how you can help through our Gift Day.

1853 to 2009

More than 155 years have gone by since St Luke's was built. A fire in 1972 was its single biggest setback but the congregation rose to the challenge and in overcoming adversity drew closer together.

The past has shown that our church isn't just a building but a place of community where people are welcomed in time of celebration and supported in time of need, where they are encouraged to grow in the Christian faith and thrive in their own time.

But like everyone's home, wear and tear means the building needs repair and upgrading.

That's why 2009 is so important and we have taken the bold decision to look at how we can protect all that is good from the past and ensure the building meets the needs of our community in the 21st century.

Our plans

We are embarking on 3 phases that will:

  • Preserve the structure of the building
  • Make it more useful for today's congregation and community
  • Safeguard it for tomorrow's generations

Phase 1: this will repair the vestry area at the back of church and replace its roof with tiles which will make better use of the space for activities, improve storage facilities and the toilet area.

Phase 2: this will replace the main church roof also with tiles, which will give us better insulation whilst maintaining the integrity of the building, making it watertight and warmer.

Phase 3: this will give us a number of benefits including disabled access, improved sound system and staged area, comfortable flexible seating enabling the church to be used in a variety of ways.
