Christingle orangeChristingle Appeal 2011

The Children’s Society works alongside children facing the harshest challenges. Some children have run away from home or have arrived from another country and through no fault of their own are living on the streets. The Children’s Society has projects all over the country and helps children no matter what their background or situation.

Last year over 500,000 children shared in Christingle services nationwide and last year on Christmas Eve, St Luke’s raised over £1,000. If you are a child, know a child or have ever been a child, then you are very welcome to join with us at one of our Christingle services.

At the atmospheric Christingle services held in St Luke’s, Crosby on Christmas Eve, we not only remember the work of the Children’s Society but celebrate the birth of that very special baby Jesus Christ and the first Christmas over 2000 years ago.

There are three services to choose from at 4.00 pm* and 5.30 pm (due to the refurbishment of St Luke’s church these two service will take place at St Helen’s Church, on Islington in Crosby) and at 7.00 pm with Holy Communion which will take place in St Luke’s Church Hall. During the service collecting candles containing donations towards the work of the Children’s Society are exchanged for a Christingle, made up of an orange, sweets, red ribbon and candle.

There are several ways of ordering The Children’s Society collecting candles this year, either in person after 11 o’clock Sunday family service at St Luke’s on 27 November and 4 December, or call in the parish office during office hours, or complete a booking form available online here (Word document) or here (pdf file) from 20 November.

The deadline to complete and return all forms to the Parish Office is Monday 5 December and we would be grateful if all orders could be collected from the Parish Office by Friday 9 December. If your child attends St Luke’s Halsall School candles can be ordered via school.

We look forward to welcoming you on Christmas Eve and we thank you all for helping us to support the invaluable work of the Children’s Society.

Please note that due to health and safety concerns numbers at each service are limited so order early to avoid disappointment.

* The 4.00 pm service is now fully booked.
